Procession Theme - The World in CostumeA fun family day out, come rain or shine, well supported by residents of Walton-on-the-Hill and the surrounding areas of Tadworth, Kingswood and Epsom. Walton-on-the-Hill May Pageant Day & Fayre begins early in the morning when the local shopkeepers and residents on the Procession Route decorate their premises to the Procession Theme. Young’s Brewery dray arrives at the assembly point outside The Blue Ball and the colourful Procession sets off for the Fayre Green at 2pm, led by the fancy dress ponies followed by the dray carrying the May Queen and her Attendants. Over 30 groups take part in the Procession to the Fayre Green including The Town Crier, Morris Men, local schools and clubs plus other attractions such as the Harley Davidson bike club. On arrival at the Fayre Green the new May Queen is crowned and sits on her throne in the Arena while the local press take photographs. After the crowning the Arena Programme begins, comprising several acts: Maypole Dancing, a performance by the Walton Music Theatre Academy, fun Dog Show, the Epsom Terrier Derby Pre-Trials, Raffle Draw and Tug of War et al. Outside the Arena the Fayre is in full swing with Craft and Charity Stalls, refreshments (BBQ and beer tent, ice cream vans, sweet crepe van, candy floss, popcorn and chips), entertainment (roundabout rides, ‘Nobble a Norman’ archery, Rifle Range, Western Town, Bouncy Castle to name only a few), and, not forgetting, the portable loos! Walton-on-the-Hill May Pageant Day closes with music by DJ El Rocco from 5.30 to 6.30pm. Phew! A special mention goes to David Green from Easylogs for sponsoring our podium and supplying and siting our publicity banners. |
