Fundraising

Funds are raised from programme advertisements, sponsors, sales of raffle tickets, fees from craft stalls and some entertainments on the Green.  Please note that many people give their time and equipment for free.  Local schools, groups and voluntary organisations are given free space to advertise in the programme and a stall on the green.

Each year the Committee select several main charities to benefit.

Scout/Guide Headquarters Rebuild

You will have noticed the old building has been demolished, and a new modular building erected.  We have exhausted the funds raised to date. To allow us to complete the project, further funds are needed for: a tiled, pitched roof; partitioned walls; interior electric and plumbing services; lighting and heating fitments; a floor covering; kitchen and toilet facilities.

In 2007 we celebrated 100 years of Scouting and 2010 was the Centenary year for Girlguiding. Both movements are well supported in Walton-on-the-Hill, providing full and varied programmes of activities and events for the young people, developing their skills and introducing new ones. There are plenty of challenges along the way and much adventure

The new building will provide additional facilities for the community, such as the disabled Scouts from The Children’s Trust, who are part of the Group. A youth theatre group, other community groups have shown an interest in using the new hall, including the local athletics team, the local book club, the mother & toddler group, as a facility for children’s parties and the local Dyscover group, once it is completed.

Mid-Surrey Pony Club

Mid Surrey Branch of the Pony Club celebrate its 80th anniversary this year and has always had its home in Walton on the Hill. 

Over the course of the past 24 years, we have converted our current field from empty space to a wonderful training facility for young riders.  This has all been achieved via voluntary effort.  With thanks to very many people we have indoor facilities, catering, services, permissions and a superb cross country course.  Literally thousands of young riders have benefitted over the years.  We want to continue this tradition to train and educate local children in riding and the correct care of their animals and to promote The Pony Club’s ethos of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty.

Most of our training is organised during school holidays with fund raising shows and events throughout the year.  Highlight of our year is the residential camp in summer at a farm in Godalming, where members spend a week under canvas with their ponies in temporary stables.

Community Responders

The UK has one of the worst survival rates for cardiac arrest with about five per cent of such patients being discharged from hospital after having a cardiac arrest in the community.  In Seattle, where there has been a massive drive to train the community in basic life saving skills and the use of defibrillators, the rate is more than 30 per cent.

Community responders are members of the local community who attend certain medical emergencies, such as chest pains, difficulty in breathing, strokes, burns or patients that have suffered a cardiac arrest.  They are always backed up by ambulance clinicians.

Clinical evidence shows that the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest drops with every minute the patient does not receive treatment. Early treatment and the use of a defibrillator can increase a patient’s chance of survival by up to 75 per cent.

Most cardiac arrests happen at home or in the community, therefore it is vital that community responders exist to support the work of ambulance service.

Community Responders carry life saving equipment including Oxygen and a defibrillator in addition to other bandages and dressings to treat other life threatening conditions such as burns. The entire pack costs some £2,000 and is funded wholly out of donations from the public.
