Walton-on-the-Hill May Queen

We have celebrated May with a Pageant in Walton since its revival in 1969.  The modern pageantry follows ancient traditions, and symbolises the departure of winter and the coming of spring.

The May Queen is escorted by her six girl attendants, the Chimney Sweep, who sweeps away the winter gloom, and Jack of the Green who carries the crown for his Lady.  The new May Queen is crowned by Elise and will perform various duties throughout her reign.
